Running Pace Calculator — Pace, Time & Distance

Instantly calculate running pace, total time, or distance. Enter any two values to find the third. Supports both kilometers and miles with detailed pace band reference.

How Pace, Time & Distance Relate

Running pace, time, and distance form a simple relationship: pace × distance = total time. If you know any two of these values, you can calculate the third. Pace is measured per kilometer (or mile), time is the total duration, and distance is how far you run.

Worked Example

10K at 8:00/mi pace
10 kilometers ÷ 1.609344 mi/km = 6.21 miles
6.21 miles × 8:00/mi = 49:42 total time
This means running a 10K at an 8:00/mile pace takes approximately 49 minutes and 42 seconds.

FAQ

How accurate is this calculator?
This calculator uses exact mathematical formulas with floating-point precision. Results are rounded to reasonable levels (2 decimal places for distance, nearest second for time/pace).
Can I use this for training workouts?
Yes! Use it to plan interval workouts, predict finishing times, or monitor pacing over training cycles. Always account for course elevation and weather variations.
What's the difference between pace and speed?
Pace is time per distance unit (min/km), while speed is distance per time unit (km/h). Pace is more intuitive for runners; speed is more intuitive for other contexts.
Does this account for elevation gain?
No. This calculator assumes flat terrain. Elevation gain will slow your actual pace compared to this estimate. Use it as a baseline and adjust for hills.
